Why are we Pride Expeditions?

When we founded in 2016 we had a number of names we could have chosen for our LGBTQ adventure travel company. We started mainly with gay walking holidays and gay group holidays for charities such as OutdoorLads . Our initial gay holidays were unique; totally different to anything on offer from other gay holiday operators to Sitges, Maspalomas and Mykonos. These are your very popular destinations for gay holidays. We chose Pride Expeditions as our name. We will attempt to justify how a gay tour operator can have such a different identity in a niche market.

We offer active LGBTQ travel adventures

Our holidays do involve a degree of hardship. When we are in the Himalaya or the Andes there are not hotels or gay B&B’s, spa days or poolside cocktails . To paint a picture of WHO WE ARE and WHAT WE DO we want to firstly be welcoming to the whole Queer community. Hence our ethos and the name PRIDE. Secondly we want to manage people’s expectations of what is involved in our trips hence EXPEDITIONS and not holidays.

  • We are often camping or staying in communal bunk rooms in mountain huts or local homestays

  • We are eating what the local people eat or what is carried up on the backs of mules or porters.

  • We visit remote mountain and rainforest environment where you are immersed in nature

  • The toilets can be an experience you will not forget

  • You need to walk or canoe or raft to get to most of the places we visit. There is not often the opportunity to sit back and do nothing.

Of course it is not always hardship holidays for our expeditioners. There is often the opportunity to sit by a pool surrounded by magical mountains. There are times when we are all sitting on the beach and relaxing and swimming in the sea. Or there are safari opportunities, temple visits and cultural experiences too.

On our gay holidays you have to fully experience the country in an immersive expedition before you can sit by the pool. If a Pride Expedition feels like something you would like to try we recommend starting easy. The LGBTQ holidays we have on offer at the moment that are accessible to anyone with reasonable fitness and the willingness to train in preparation are
