In early September 2017, Pride Expeditions ran our first expedition to the beautiful little country of Slovenia. This little gem of a country has a lot to offer for adventurous people. We had decided to climb Mt Triglav which at 2864m is the highest peak of the Julian Alps. This involved a three-day hike across the stunning Komna plateau and a vertigo-inducing scramble to the summit of Triglav.  

Earlier in the week there had been a light dusting of snow on the summit ridge that would have made conditions very tricky for us had not the temperatures increased in the lead up to our ascent. The sun came out and large clouds were rolling across the mountains on our summit day giving us a chance to get some very atmospheric shots! All the group made it to the summit where we spent a long time admiring the views and getting some cheeky shots. 

After trekking across the beautiful Komna plateau and descending to Bovec we started phase two of our Slovenia tour and went white water rafting on the emerald waters of the Soca river. We also enjoyed many a pivo (Slovenian lager) on a night out with the some amiable locals in the small village of Bovec near the Trenta valley.

The welcome we received in Slovenia could not have been better.  Although LGBT rights in Slovenia are lagging behind the rest of Europe we did not experience any negativity or discrimination towards us by the guides or the local people. In fact, we had many a positive comment about what a fun and enthusiastic group of guys we were and encouraging opinions on the ethos and work of Pride Expeditions. Gay marriage in Slovenia has been permitted since the Spring of 2017 and therefore it was a prime time for us to go as a group of Gay men into the mountains of Slovenia and make our presence felt. We did not hide who we were and we felt a lot of love in return for our cause of promoting LGBT rights around the mountains of the World.

Pride Expeditions would like to say a BIG Thank-you to Ziga, Katja, Tina and the rest of the guides who made us feel so welcome in Slovenia, joined in the mischief and looked after us amazingly. We are going back to Slovenia at the same time in  September 2018 and are glad to have you supporting us again! Much appreciation goes to the team of OutdoorLads that joined in in the fun and signed up to adventure with us on our first Slovenian adventure week and for the great feedback!
